Rooftop heron | BPW #62

I haven’t had much time to go on birdwatching walkabout lately. Yesterday morning I was sitting at the kitchen table and spotted this grey heron on our neighbour’s chimney. Lots of grey herons hang out at the canal here. They usually accompany the fishermen. It is quite a common sight to see them standing side by side, staring into the murky depths of the canals.

Anyway, I grabbed my camera and ran outside.

  1. Nice shots, Gwen. It seems strange to see a heron on a rooftop. He belongs at the water's edge, scanning intently. Maybe he has an identity crisis? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Great series of photographs, Gwen. I agree with Amy, it is unusual to see a heron on a rooftop. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Cool series Gwen. That's the bird that looks like our Great Blue Heron but lacks the brown on the thighs and neck. Beautiful. I love the “launch” shot too. Funny, I saw a Great Blue Heron atop a high power transmission line last year. I think they are about 100 feet tall. I had never seen one up that high before either.
