The Crested Guineafowl and Helmeted Guineafowl are the two species of guineafowl found in Southern Africa. If you want to see Crested Guineafowl in Kruger National Park, you need to go to the Pafuri area in the north. Of course, you also need a lot of luck to spot them.

Helmeted Guineafowl are all over the place and much easier to find. Helmeted Guineafowl are often domesticated, so you can also see them in the UK, France, the USA – or the frozen variety – in the supermarkets. Tastes like chicken 😉

  1. Great photos of the two kinds of Guinea Fowl. It was good that you could see both kinds.

  2. I’ve never seen the Crested Guinea Gwen. Cool bird and great shot with the little chick too. We had Helmeted Guineas on our place for years. They sure can scarf up the grasshoppers!

  3. The Crested Guinea is a beautiful bird. Several people around these parts keep Helmeted Guineas as bug eater and watch dogs. I think most end up serving as coyote food.
